1 lb. ground round
1 lb. mild Italian sausage
1 green bell pepper
4 cloves of garlic
2 Tbsp. Italian herbs
1 tsp. ground black pepper
1-28 oz. can of crushed tomatoes
1-28 oz. can diced tomatoes
1-15 oz. can tomato sauce
2-4 oz cans tomato paste
2 cups of water
3 bay leaves
1 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup red wine
1 heaping Tbsp. of brown sugar
Brown meat in olive oil with 2 cloves of garlic, crushed. Add 1 Tbsp Italian herbs and black pepper. In another large pot add all canned ingredients, 1 Tbsp, of Italian herbs, cloves of garlic crushed. Add browned meat. Saute finely chopped green pepper in a little olive oil until translucent or limp. Add peppers to sauce. Add 2 cups of water, wine, balsamic vinegar, bay leaves and brown sugar. Simmer for 3 hours or more. The longer it cooks the better it is.
